The Story Unfolds

Joseph-and-Mary In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.  This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria.  And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city.  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David.  Joseph went up from Galilee to Bethlehem to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was great with child.

Luke 2:1-5

Can you sense it?  The silent preparation; angels nearing the earth in quiet anticipation,  The heavens holding their breath, God watching and waiting...  The time is coming.  Joseph and Mary are on their journey.  The babe will be born soon.  And all the earth is moving, traveling, being counted.  The story is unfolding right before them and yet no one knows except a select few. Mary and Joseph travel toward Bethlehem.  Can you imagine their thoughts?  Can you feel their anxious hearts?   Can you hear their prayers?  The birth will be hard, painful and lonely, but the glory of the Lord will soon fill the skies and the news will spread.  The Son of God is arriving.  The Son of Man is here!

As the story unfolds, as you are moving, traveling, wrapping, eating, celebrating, may you turn toward the heavens and witness the multitude of heavenly hosts singing and praising God saying "Glory to God in the highest and peace to His people on earth!"
